Zortman, MT – Roads across Southwest Phillips County are turning snow-packed this morning as heavy snowfall continues, creating hazardous travel conditions that will intensify before Saturday midday.

According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Southwest Phillips County, including Zortman, until 11 a.m. MST Saturday. An additional 3 to 5 inches of snow is expected, with isolated totals reaching 6 inches across the higher elevations of the Little Rocky Mountains. Blowing snow will further reduce visibility, especially in open areas.

Across eastern Montana, the storm is adding fresh accumulation to already slick highways, but impacts are most concentrated in Phillips County. Secondary roads near Zortman and rural routes through the Little Rockies could become difficult to navigate by late Friday evening, complicating travel for ranchers and residents. The Friday evening commute may see the worst conditions as snowfall rates increase and winds lift loose snow across roadways.

The storm also poses challenges for agriculture. Cold temperatures combined with accumulating snow may stress newborn livestock, particularly in exposed pastures.

Drivers are urged to carry extra food, water, and a flashlight if travel is unavoidable. Montana road conditions are available by calling 511. The Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11 a.m. Saturday, and additional advisories could follow if snowfall persists.
