According to Livingston County Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty, sheriff’s investigators responded Feb. 6 to a residence in the Town of Geneseo for a reported larceny.
Authorities said investigators identified the suspect as 57-year-old Daniel Ewing of the Town of Irondequoit during the course of the investigation. Officials allege Ewing committed grand larceny involving stolen property from the residence.
On Tuesday, Feb. 24, Investigator James Merrick arrested Ewing and charged him with Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a felony under New York law, according to the sheriff’s office.
Ewing was transported to the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention. He was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part (LC-CAP) before a Town of Springwater justice.
According to the sheriff’s office, the judge released Ewing on his own recognizance because the charge did not qualify for bail under the New York State Bail Reform Act.
The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office represented Ewing at arraignment. The Livingston County District Attorney’s Office appeared on behalf of the prosecution.
