North Carolina – Headlights glow in a gray haze across Charlotte as dense fog clings to I-40 and I-77 this morning. Drivers are braking suddenly where visibility drops below a quarter mile. Wet pavement and mist are combining to create slow, cautious travel across Mecklenburg and surrounding counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, patchy dense fog continues across the North Carolina Piedmont, especially along the I-40 corridor from Old Fort east toward Statesville and into the Charlotte metro. Visibility may fall quickly over short distances through midmorning. Light showers are also moving through, with temperatures holding near 55 degrees at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
Motorists on I-85, I-485 and U.S. 74 should use low-beam headlights and increase following distance. Conditions can change in seconds. School buses and early deliveries face the greatest risk before late morning improvement.
Clouds linger into the afternoon with a high near 56. Patchy fog may redevelop late tonight as skies remain mostly cloudy and lows dip to the mid-40s. By Saturday, sunshine gradually returns with highs climbing into the mid-60s. Sunday turns bright and warmer, reaching the mid-70s and delivering early March Spring Vibes.
Early next week cools briefly, with highs near 52 Monday and lows falling into the upper 30s. That raises a minor flash-freeze concern where roads stay damp after sunset. Midweek moderates again, pushing toward the upper 60s and low 70s as above-normal temperatures build.
