Indianapolis, Indiana-Ohio Border – Snow could begin sticking to pavement along I-70 and I-65 by 6 a.m. Sunday, with a 30 to 50 percent chance that at least 2 inches accumulates across central and eastern Indiana into western and central Ohio before 6 a.m. Monday.
According to the National Weather Service, a developing winter system is expected to move east late Saturday night through Sunday night, placing a corridor from Indianapolis and Fort Wayne through Dayton and Columbus in the zone most favored for measurable snowfall. The highest probabilities for 2 inches or more currently focus along and north of the I-70 corridor, though small shifts in the storm track could nudge heavier totals closer to the Ohio River or farther north toward Toledo.
If moderate snowfall rates develop during the Sunday morning or afternoon travel windows, visibility could briefly fall below one mile. Elevated surfaces, including interchanges along I-465 in Indianapolis and I-270 around Columbus, may become slick first as surface temperatures hover near freezing.
INDOT and ODOT crews are monitoring pavement conditions and preparing plow operations ahead of potential impacts. Road conditions could deteriorate quickly if steady snow bands align during peak travel times.
Residents should plan for slower commutes, check tire tread and allow extra stopping distance. Winter weather advisories may be issued by Saturday as confidence increases in snowfall placement and intensity through early Monday morning.
