Omaha, Nebraska-Iowa Border – Snow could begin impacting travel along I-80 and I-29 as early as 6 a.m. Sunday, with a growing 30 to 50 percent chance that at least 2 inches accumulates across eastern Nebraska and western Iowa before 6 a.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service, the developing system may lay down a corridor of accumulating snow from central and eastern Nebraska through Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and into Pennsylvania to start March. The highest probabilities for 2 inches or more currently stretch from Omaha and Lincoln into Council Bluffs and Des Moines, while central Nebraska faces a lower 10 to 30 percent chance.

Even modest snowfall rates could create slick bridges and overpasses, especially along I-480, Highway 75 and Interstate 680 near the Missouri River. Pavement temperatures will determine how quickly roads become snow-covered Sunday morning, but reduced visibility and slushy conditions are possible during heavier bursts.

Farther east, cities including Chicago, Indianapolis and Columbus sit within the broader zone where plow crews are monitoring trends. State transportation agencies across the Midwest are reviewing staffing plans ahead of the Sunday travel window.

Residents should prepare now by checking vehicle emergency kits, ensuring windshield wipers are functional and allowing extra stopping distance if travel becomes necessary. Airlines and bus services may also adjust schedules if snowfall intensity increases.

Confidence in the exact track and totals will sharpen through Saturday. Winter weather advisories could be issued if probabilities continue climbing, with updates expected before the Sunday morning commute window begins.
