Virginia – Rain streaks across windshields in Blacksburg this morning as temperatures sit near 47 degrees and steady showers move through Montgomery County. Puddles are forming along Main Street and US-460, and more rain is on the way before lunchtime.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, rain remains likely through midday with an 80% chance of precipitation and highs near 50 degrees. New rainfall amounts stay light, generally under a quarter inch. Roads will remain slick for the late-morning commute, especially in low-lying areas.

Skies begin to clear tonight, and temperatures drop to around 32 degrees. Any lingering moisture could refreeze on elevated surfaces. Drivers should watch for patchy ice early Friday, particularly on bridges near the New River.

Sunshine returns Friday with highs near 54 degrees. A stronger warm-up arrives Saturday as temperatures climb to 64 degrees under bright skies. It will feel like an early March spring tease across the New River Valley.

That warmth fades late Sunday. Highs reach 58 degrees before clouds increase. A chance of rain and snow develops after midnight Sunday night. By Monday, rain and snow become likely with highs near 40 degrees and a 70% precipitation chance.

Light freezing rain cannot be ruled out Monday night into Tuesday as colder air settles in. Even minor icing could create travel hazards.

Temperatures rebound by midweek with highs back into the 50s, and longer-range trends point to milder conditions building into early March.
