Buffalo, New York – Narrow bands of lake effect snow are coating roads across parts of Wayne, Northern Cayuga and Oswego counties, setting up slick travel conditions through 7 a.m. Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. EST for communities including Newark, Fair Haven and Oswego. The most persistent snow bands could drop an additional 1 to 2 inches before tapering off around sunrise.

Lake effect snow often falls in concentrated corridors, meaning drivers can encounter dry pavement one mile and snow-covered roads the next. Visibility may briefly drop in heavier bursts, especially along Route 104, Interstate 81 near Oswego and secondary roads closer to Lake Ontario.

The advisory targets the Thursday morning commute, when untreated surfaces could remain slippery. Motorists should reduce speed, allow extra stopping distance and prepare for rapid changes in visibility.

Snow showers will weaken after daybreak as bands shift and break apart, but patchy slick spots could linger into midmorning where heavier snow persists.
