MARION, Ind. – A man was killed in an early-morning shooting Wednesday at a residence on the east side of Marion, and Grant County authorities said a woman was taken into custody for questioning as the homicide investigation continues.
According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at about 5:58 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2026, to a reported shooting at 135 N 700E in Marion. Deputies arrived at the residence and located a male victim inside the home, the sheriff’s office said.
Despite lifesaving efforts, the man was pronounced dead at 6:16 a.m., authorities said.
Investigators said deputies made contact with a woman shortly after the incident at a nearby location. The sheriff’s office said she was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office for questioning. Authorities did not release her name or describe any potential charges.
Indiana State Police and the Marion Police Department assisted at the scene, the sheriff’s office said. Officials described the case as an active investigation and said no additional details were being released Wednesday.
The names of those involved are being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the Grant County coroner, authorities said.
Residents near 700 East and drivers using the area during the morning commute may have noticed a law enforcement presence as investigators worked at the location.
