Seattle, WA – Snow is stacking up across the central Cascades, and drivers crossing Stevens Pass could face slick pavement and sudden slowdowns through early Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Seattle, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the Cascades of Snohomish and northern King counties until 4 a.m. PST Friday. Total snowfall could reach 10 inches in higher backcountry terrain, while Stevens Pass is expected to pick up 4 to 6 inches at pass level. Wind gusts up to 35 mph will create blowing snow and brief visibility drops.

Travel over Stevens Pass along U.S. Highway 2 may become difficult at times, particularly during heavier snow bursts. Snow-covered roads and compact ice could develop overnight, and temporary closures are possible if conditions deteriorate. Gusty winds may also bring down small tree branches, increasing the risk of isolated power outages in mountain communities.

Drivers should reduce speed, allow extra stopping distance and check Washington State Department of Transportation updates before heading into the Cascades. Carry chains and emergency supplies if traveling across the pass.

Snow continues through Thursday night before tapering early Friday, but icy stretches may linger into the morning commute.
