Brownsville, TX – A volatile mix of 92-degree heat, gusty winds and dry air will create explosive fire conditions across Deep South Texas by midday Wednesday, putting rural communities and brush country at high risk for rapid wildfire spread.

According to the National Weather Service in Brownsville, a Red Flag Warning remains in effect from noon through 6 p.m. CST for Brooks, Hidalgo, Inland Cameron, Inland Willacy and Inland Kenedy counties. Southern winds will increase to 15 to 25 mph, with gusts reaching 35 mph. Relative humidity could fall as low as 25 percent during peak heating.

The most critical window stretches through mid to late afternoon, when temperatures surge and vegetation dries further. Any spark from welding, towing chains, farm equipment or discarded cigarettes could ignite fast-moving grass fires capable of spreading across open land in minutes.

Emergency officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning and secure trailer chains to prevent roadside sparks. Ranchers and landowners should check water sources and keep firefighting tools accessible.

Conditions improve after sunset as winds ease, but elevated fire danger may linger if dry weather continues. Additional advisories could be issued if critical thresholds persist into late week.
