Fort Worth, Texas – Very low humidity between 10 and 20 percent combined with southwest winds of 10 to 20 mph will elevate fire weather conditions west of Interstate 35 today, increasing the risk of rapid grassfire spread.

According to the US National Weather Service in Fort Worth, the highest concern will develop from late morning through early evening as temperatures climb into the 80s across North and Central Texas. Areas along and west of I-35, including Fort Worth, Weatherford, Graham and Cisco, will experience the driest air and strongest winds.

Officials say the combination of dry vegetation, warm temperatures and steady southwest winds could allow fires to spread quickly if ignited. Outdoor burning is discouraged, and residents are urged to properly dispose of cigarettes and avoid activities that may produce sparks.

High temperatures are expected to remain well above seasonal averages through the weekend. Dallas-Fort Worth could see highs in the upper 70s to mid-80s through Saturday, with similar readings extending south toward Waco and Killeen along Interstate 35.

Most of North Texas is expected to remain rain-free for several days, limiting relief from dry conditions. A slight chance of rain may develop Sunday in parts of East Texas, though widespread rainfall is not currently anticipated.

Commuters traveling along I-20, I-30 and I-35 during the afternoon hours may notice gusty crosswinds and dry conditions that can contribute to fire danger near roadways.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated on fire weather statements and practice caution during outdoor activities.
