Fort Wayne, Indiana – A male pedestrian died after a vehicle struck him late Tuesday at Anthony Boulevard and Eckhart Street, prompting a fatal crash investigation, police said.

According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, officers responded around 10:42 p.m. Tuesday to the intersection for a “crash with injuries” after witnesses reported a vehicle hit a pedestrian. Officers arrived and found the man lying in the roadway, police said.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department and Three Rivers Ambulance Authority arrived shortly after officers and pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene, according to police. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

Police said preliminary information indicates the vehicle was traveling southbound on Anthony Boulevard as the pedestrian attempted to cross Anthony Boulevard at Eckhart Street.

The department’s Fatal Crash Team and Air Support Unit were called to the scene to conduct the investigation, police said.

Investigators said the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating. The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department along with the Allen County Coroner’s Office and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, police said.

No additional information about the pedestrian’s identity or the circumstances leading up to the collision was released Wednesday. Police did not immediately announce whether any citations or charges are expected.

The intersection sits along a busy north-south corridor used by commuters traveling between residential areas and nearby shopping and employment centers.
