Washington drivers are stepping into a cold, gray start this morning as low clouds hang over downtown Seattle and temperatures hover near 34 degrees. The air feels damp and biting, and sidewalks remain slick in shaded spots. That chill sets the tone for a wet stretch ahead.

According to the National Weather Service in Seattle, highs reach only 50 degrees today with a 30% chance of rain developing after 4 p.m. Southwest winds increase to 6 to 11 mph, adding to the raw feel. Rain chances climb to 40% late tonight and 60% Thursday as steadier showers move in.

Thursday looks unsettled, with rain likely after midmorning and highs near 51 degrees. Gusts could reach 23 mph at times. Periods of rain continue Thursday night into Friday, with another 60% chance and highs again around 50 degrees. Expect ponding on roads during heavier bursts, especially along I-5 and Highway 99.

Overnight lows dip into the low 40s and upper 30s through the period. While temperatures stay above freezing in the city, outlying valleys could briefly flirt with mid-30s. This is the time of year when wet pavement and quick cooling can create isolated slick spots before sunrise.

Relief arrives Saturday with partial sunshine and a high near 48 degrees. Sunday turns sunnier and slightly milder near 51. Early next week trends brighter, with highs climbing into the mid-50s as a modest warming trend develops heading into early March.

Keep rain gear close through Friday. Are you seeing heavier showers in your neighborhood?
