Dodge City, Kansas – Highs in the 70s Wednesday will give way to wind shifts tonight in Dodge City.
According to the US National Weather Service in Dodge City, another warm day is expected across southwest Kansas ahead of a fast-moving cold front forecast to pass through this evening.
Afternoon temperatures are projected to reach the low to mid-70s across much of the region, including Dodge City, Garden City and Liberal. Some locations near the Oklahoma border could approach the upper 70s before sunset.
Forecasters said the approaching front is not expected to bring sharply colder air immediately behind it, but winds will increase and shift direction as it moves through. Some widely scattered rain showers may develop this evening, though widespread accumulating rainfall is not anticipated.
Drivers along US-50, US-283 and US-56 may notice gusty crosswinds late Wednesday, especially in open rural stretches west of Dodge City. Brief showers could create isolated slick spots, though rainfall totals are expected to remain light.
The National Weather Service described the system as quick-moving, limiting the potential for significant precipitation. Most communities are expected to remain dry or receive only brief light showers.
Residents planning evening travel, high school activities or agricultural work should monitor updated forecasts as the front approaches.
Temperatures later this week are expected to trend cooler following the frontal passage, though no extreme cold was highlighted in the latest outlook.
Additional updates will be issued if shower coverage becomes more widespread than currently forecast.
