Meadville, Pennsylvania – Snow and gusty winds are combining to reduce visibility and coat roads across northwest Pennsylvania overnight, with the heaviest snowfall expected before sunrise Wednesday and hazardous travel lingering into early afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m. EST Wednesday for Crawford and Southern Erie counties, including Meadville, Titusville, Corry and Edinboro. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 5 inches are expected, with wind gusts reaching 35 mph.
The heaviest burst of snow will fall late tonight into the predawn hours, creating snow-covered roads and periodic whiteouts, especially along Route 6, Route 19 and Interstate 79. Patchy blowing snow may further reduce visibility in open and rural areas.
PennDOT and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission urge drivers to delay unnecessary travel and monitor 511PA for the latest roadway updates. Motorists should slow down, increase following distance and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions during the morning commute.
Snow intensity should decrease late Wednesday morning, but slick spots may persist on untreated roads beyond 1 p.m.
