Buffalo, New York – Snow-covered roads are slowing traffic across western New York early Wednesday, with heavier lake effect bands targeting the Tug Hill Plateau through early Thursday and lighter snow creating slick commutes farther south.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m. EST Wednesday for Wyoming, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Southern Erie counties, where an additional 1 to 3 inches of snow is expected, especially across higher terrain in places like Orchard Park and Springville. Roads may become snow-covered at times with reduced visibility in steady bursts.

Farther north and east, Oswego and Lewis counties remain under an advisory until 7 a.m. EST Thursday. Forecasters expect total snowfall of 5 to 9 inches in the most persistent lake effect bands, particularly across Oswego County and the Tug Hill Plateau. Snow will fall in several rounds, with a brief lull before lake effect intensifies again tonight.

Drivers along Interstate 86, Route 219 and stretches of Interstate 81 near Pulaski should plan for changing conditions and allow extra travel time. Snow bands may shift through the evening commute before tapering early Thursday, but slick spots could linger beyond the advisory.
