La Crosse, Wisconsin – Temperatures are set to climb toward 50 degrees Friday along I-90 in western Wisconsin before light snow chances return Thursday and Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, two weak systems will bring passing shots of light snow Thursday and again Saturday, though little accumulation is expected Thursday. Saturday carries a 20 to 40 percent chance of 1 to 2 inches of snow, depending on track and surface temperatures.
After a cooler Wednesday with highs in the 20s, temperatures rebound into the 30s Thursday. By Friday, highs are forecast to surge into the 40s and potentially low 50s in areas without significant snowpack. Locations with deeper snow cover may remain cooler, with temperatures varying widely across short distances.
Forecasters say the warmup will be short-lived. A cold front is expected to sweep through over the weekend, sending daytime highs back into the 20s by Sunday.
Primary travel corridors including Interstate 90, US-14 and US-61 could see brief slick spots during light snow periods Thursday and Saturday, especially during morning or evening hours when temperatures hover near freezing.
While widespread travel disruptions are not anticipated, drivers should remain alert for changing road conditions, particularly in areas where melting and refreezing occurs overnight.
Students, commuters and delivery drivers may notice rapid temperature swings over the next several days, affecting road surfaces and visibility during passing snow showers.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts from the National Weather Service La Crosse office as the weekend system develops.
