Miami, FL – Farmers and early-morning drivers in inland South Florida have a narrow window to prepare before temperatures dip into the mid-30s, triggering patchy frost between 2 a.m. and 9 a.m. Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a Frost Advisory is in effect for Glades and Hendry counties during the pre-dawn hours Wednesday. Lows are expected to fall to 34 to 36 degrees with light winds, creating ideal conditions for frost development across rural and agricultural areas.
The greatest impact is expected west of Lake Okeechobee, including communities near Clewiston, LaBelle and Moore Haven. Sensitive crops and exposed vegetation near US-27, State Road 80 and stretches of I-75 could experience localized frost, especially in low-lying fields where cold air settles.
While metro Miami, Fort Lauderdale and coastal Broward County will remain milder, inland portions of Collier County near Alligator Alley could also see brief pockets of frost before sunrise. Motorists traveling along US-41 and I-75 should watch for isolated visibility reductions in shallow ground fog developing in cooler inland zones.
Agricultural officials urge growers to cover tender plants, protect irrigation systems and monitor thermometers closely through sunrise. Outdoor pets should have warm shelter, and residents are encouraged to check on vulnerable neighbors sensitive to colder temperatures.
Temperatures will rebound quickly after 9 a.m. Wednesday as sunshine returns and winds increase slightly. The Frost Advisory expires at 9 a.m., but additional cool mornings remain possible if skies stay clear and winds remain light later this week.
