Craigmont, ID – Drivers across the higher elevations of the Camas Prairie have a narrow window before 11 a.m. Tuesday as wet snow moves in and turns roads slushy during the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. PST for Lewis and southern Nez Perce counties, including Winchester, Nezperce, Craigmont and areas along Soldiers Meadow Road. Additional precipitation arriving between 9 and 10 a.m. will produce up to 1 inch of wet snow, mainly at higher elevations.

Even light accumulation can create slick stretches on rural highways and secondary roads, especially bridges and untreated surfaces. Slushy buildup may reduce traction quickly, increasing the risk of spinouts during the late-morning drive.

Transportation officials urge motorists to slow down, leave extra following distance and check Idaho road conditions by calling 511 before traveling. Pedestrians should watch for icy steps, sidewalks and driveways that could become slippery as temperatures hover near freezing.

Precipitation will taper by late morning, but patchy slick spots could linger into midday where snow briefly accumulates.
