Lake Charles, Louisiana – A Small Craft Advisory and elevated fire danger are impacting areas along Interstate 10 and coastal zones beginning Tuesday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, a Small Craft Advisory takes effect at 6 p.m. Tuesday for coastal lakes, bays, and Gulf marine zones extending up to 60 nautical miles offshore. The advisory remains in place until 3 p.m. Wednesday.

South winds are expected to increase to 20 to 25 knots, with gusts up to 30 knots. Seas are forecast to build between 4 and 7 feet, creating hazardous conditions for small vessels. Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller boats, are advised to avoid navigating in these conditions.

Communities near coastal roadways including LA-82, LA-27, and areas south of U.S. 90 may experience breezy shoreline conditions.

Inland, dry and breezy weather is expected to elevate fire danger from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday across southeast Texas and central to southwest Louisiana, including Lake Charles, Beaumont, and Lafayette near I-10. Officials discourage outdoor burning as dry vegetation and gusty winds may allow fires to spread quickly.

Temperatures are forecast to climb into the mid to upper 70s Wednesday, approaching 80 degrees in some areas. A weak cold front later this week may bring low-end rain chances Thursday.

Boaters, truck drivers along I-10, and coastal workers may see the greatest impacts Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Residents should monitor official updates and check local burn advisories before conducting outdoor activities.
