Dallas, Texas – A wind advisory is in effect Tuesday afternoon across North Texas, with gusts up to 35 mph potentially affecting travel along Interstate 35 and surrounding roadways.
According to the National Weather Service Fort Worth office, sustained south winds of 20 to 25 mph are expected from noon until 6 p.m., with peak gusts reaching 35 mph. The advisory includes much of the I-35 corridor into Northeast Texas, including Dallas-Fort Worth, Sherman, Paris and surrounding communities.
Forecasters also warned of elevated fire weather conditions due to low humidity, gusty winds and above-normal temperatures. Highs Tuesday are forecast to reach 74 degrees in Dallas-Fort Worth, 79 in Graham, 71 in Sherman and 68 in Paris.
Drivers of high-profile vehicles, including semitrucks and delivery vans, are urged to use extra caution, particularly on open stretches of I-35, I-20 and US-75 where crosswinds may be strongest. Officials advise securing lightweight outdoor objects that could be blown around.
The elevated fire threat means residents should avoid outdoor burning and activities that could spark a wildfire. Breezy and dry conditions may allow fires to spread more rapidly than usual.
The advisory remains in effect through early evening. Commuters, delivery drivers and students traveling along major North Texas highways may experience gusty crosswinds during peak afternoon traffic.
Officials encourage residents to monitor weather.gov/FWD for updates.
