Lewiston, Idaho – Slippery roads along Lewiston Grade and across the higher elevations of the Palouse are creating hazardous driving conditions through 11 a.m. Tuesday, with up to 2 inches of wet snow adding to the morning commute risks.

According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect for the Lewiston area, the Idaho Palouse, Lewis and southern Nez Perce counties, the Camas Prairie, and the Central Panhandle Mountains, as well as Washington’s Palouse region including Pullman and Uniontown. Snow totals range from 1 to 4 inches, with the heaviest bands falling over higher terrain before late morning.

In north central Idaho, Lewiston Grade, Peck, Culdesac and Gifford could see up to 2 inches of accumulation, while Moscow, Potlatch, Genesee and Plummer pick up 1 to 3 inches. On the Camas Prairie near Winchester, Nezperce and Craigmont, another 2 inches may coat rural highways and county roads.

In eastern Washington, Pullman and Uniontown face 2 to 4 inches of wet snow, which can quickly compact into slush and ice on heavily traveled routes near Washington State University.

Mountain passes including Lookout Pass, Fourth of July Pass and areas near Kellogg, Wallace and St. Maries are also snow-covered, reducing visibility and traction.

Drivers should slow down, allow extra stopping distance and check Idaho 511 or the Washington State Department of Transportation website for real-time road conditions. Advisories expire at 11 a.m. Tuesday, but slick spots could linger into the midday hours.
