Meadville, Pa. – Drivers in Crawford and southern Erie counties have less than 12 hours before a fast-moving snow burst begins covering secondary roads by 7 p.m. Tuesday, setting up slick conditions into the Wednesday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 7 p.m. Tuesday until 1 p.m. Wednesday for Crawford and Southern Erie counties. Snow totals between 2 and 5 inches are expected, with the heaviest accumulation south of Interstate 90 and east of Interstate 79. Most of the snowfall will occur within a six-hour window overnight.
Light lake-enhanced snow will taper off by mid-morning Tuesday, but a clipper system arriving tonight will quickly intensify snowfall rates. Roads including I-79, Route 322 and Route 6 could turn snow-covered before midnight, especially near Meadville, Titusville, Corry and Edinboro.
PennDOT and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission urge motorists to slow down, allow extra stopping distance and check 511PA for live road conditions. While the heaviest snow is timed after the evening commute, untreated surfaces may refreeze before sunrise Wednesday.
Advisories remain in effect until early Wednesday afternoon, and additional updates could follow if snowfall rates increase overnight.
