La Crosse, Wisconsin – A fast-moving weather system is bringing light snow to parts of central and western Wisconsin today, with up to 1 to 2 inches possible northeast of Interstate 94.
According to the US National Weather Service in La Crosse, the highest snowfall totals are expected toward central Wisconsin, including areas near Medford and Wausau. Communities northeast of I-94 could see 1 to 2 inches of accumulation, while locations farther southwest may only receive a light dusting.
Snowfall is expected to occur within a relatively short window, generally lasting one to two hours in most locations. Brief reductions in visibility are possible during steadier bursts.
Southwest of I-94, including areas near La Crosse and Prairie du Chien, only minor accumulation is anticipated. Forecasters also note a 20 to 30 percent chance of brief light freezing rain near the Mississippi River, though the duration is expected to be less than one hour with little to no significant impact.
Roads may become slick in areas where snow accumulates, particularly on bridges and elevated surfaces. Travel impacts are possible along I-94 near Black River Falls, US-61 near Winona, and WI-13 toward Medford.
Given the limited duration and daytime timing, widespread hazardous conditions are not expected. However, drivers are advised to slow down if encountering snow-covered stretches.
The system may especially affect late-morning and early-afternoon travelers across central Wisconsin.
Officials recommend checking road conditions and allowing extra travel time where snowfall develops.
