Buffalo, New York – Widespread light to moderate snow is expected across western New York tonight through Wednesday, with higher totals forecast east of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.

According to the US National Weather Service in Buffalo, the majority of accumulating snowfall will occur tonight across western New York. From the second half of tonight through Wednesday, snow will become more focused east of Lake Ontario, particularly across higher terrain.

Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for portions of the region, including areas east of Lake Erie and across the Tug Hill region. Snowfall totals will vary by location, with the greatest accumulations expected across elevated areas east of both lakes.

Across the Buffalo metro area and along I-90, several inches of accumulation are possible overnight. Snow is forecast to taper off across western New York during the day Wednesday, though it may continue into Wednesday evening across the Tug Hill region near Watertown along I-81.

Marginal temperatures Wednesday may limit accumulation in some lower elevations, but untreated roads could remain snow-covered or slushy during the morning commute.

A cold front moving through Wednesday afternoon may bring additional snow showers and the potential for isolated snow squalls.

Travel impacts are possible along I-90 between Buffalo and Rochester, I-86 near Jamestown, I-490 in Rochester, and I-81 near Watertown.

The timing may especially affect early commuters and school transportation Wednesday morning.

Officials advise monitoring updated forecasts and allowing extra travel time as conditions evolve.
