Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for portions of western Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia, with 2 to 5 inches of snow expected from 9 p.m. tonight through 1 p.m. Wednesday.

According to the US National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a quick-hitting system will move through the region tonight into Wednesday morning, bringing a fresh round of accumulating snow. The advisory area includes portions of southwest Pennsylvania north of US-422 and higher elevations of Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia.

Forecasters indicate snowfall totals will generally range from 2 to 5 inches, with locally higher amounts possible along the higher ridges. Areas northeast of Pittsburgh, including Butler, Clarion, and Indiana counties, are expected to see the greatest accumulation.

Travel impacts are likely along I-79 north of Pittsburgh, US-422 east toward Indiana, and I-80 near Clarion. In northern West Virginia, higher elevations near Morgantown and along I-68 may also experience snow-covered roads.

Snow is expected to develop this evening and continue overnight, potentially affecting the Wednesday morning commute. Reduced visibility and slick conditions are possible during periods of steadier snowfall.

The advisory remains in effect until early Wednesday afternoon as lingering snow showers taper off.

The timing may especially affect students, early commuters, and commercial traffic traveling across ridge-top roadways.

Officials urge motorists to monitor updated forecasts and allow extra travel time during the advisory period.
