Duluth, Minnesota – Snow will continue to coat highways and back roads across northern Minnesota through midafternoon Tuesday, creating slick travel conditions from the Boundary Waters to the Lake Superior shoreline.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 3 p.m. CST for Northern Cook and Lake counties, including Isabella and the eastern and central Boundary Waters. An additional 2 to 4 inches of snow is expected, with wind gusts up to 35 mph causing areas of blowing snow and reduced visibility.

Central and northern St. Louis County, including Ely and Hibbing, will see another 1 to 3 inches through the afternoon. The heaviest snowfall rates are likely late morning into early afternoon, particularly in far east-central and northern sections near Lake Vermilion and Voyageurs National Park.

Southern Lake County, including Two Harbors and Silver Bay, can expect 1 to 3 inches, with snow falling steadily along Highway 61. Roads may become snow covered quickly during heavier bursts.

In northwest Wisconsin, Iron County, including Hurley and surrounding Tribal lands, is under an advisory from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., with 2 to 4 inches expected.

Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and check 511 road conditions before heading out. Snow will taper later this afternoon, but slick spots could linger into the evening.
