Michigan’s biting morning air stings your face, and fresh flakes are lining up west of Grand Rapids. Temperatures sit near 14°F late this morning, with wind chills close to 6°F. Roads are dry for now, but conditions will change quickly by late afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, snow moves in after 5 p.m., mainly near and north of I-96. The highest totals are expected across central Lower Michigan, where 1 to 3 inches are possible. In the Grand Rapids metro, lighter amounts are likely, but even under an inch can create slick travel during the evening commute.
Snow showers continue into tonight before tapering toward early Wednesday. Lows fall near 23°F. That drop in temperature sets up a flash-freeze risk on untreated roads, especially along US-131 and I-196. Plan extra travel time and use caution on bridges and ramps.
A few lake-effect snow showers linger Wednesday morning with highs near 26°F. Skies turn mostly cloudy Wednesday night as temperatures dip into the teens.
By Thursday, sunshine returns with highs near 34°F. Friday brings a noticeable warmup, with highs near 48°F under sunny skies. That milder air offers a preview of spring across western Michigan.
Looking ahead into early next week, temperatures trend closer to seasonal averages, with additional light snow chances over the weekend. Longer-range signals hint at gradual warming heading into early March.
