Wisconsin’s lakefront skyline looks calm this morning, but light snow is poised to sweep into Milwaukee by mid-afternoon. Roads that appear merely damp at noon could turn slick by the early evening drive.
Temperatures sit near 19°F late this morning at Mitchell International Airport, with a wind chill near 11°F. According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, snow becomes likely between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. across much of southern Wisconsin. Daytime totals remain under one inch, but gusty south winds up to 35 mph may reduce visibility at times.
The bigger concern arrives after sunset. As temperatures fall back toward 19°F tonight, any melted snow can refreeze quickly. That flash-freeze setup often creates black ice on bridges and overpasses along I-94, I-43, and Highway 41. Plan extra time for the evening commute and use caution on untreated roads.
Skies clear Wednesday with a high near 29°F and brisk northwest winds. Thursday moderates to 37°F under partly sunny skies. By Friday, highs jump into the low 50s with mostly sunny conditions, offering a brief taste of spring.
Another chance of snow returns Saturday afternoon, with highs in the mid-30s. Light accumulations are possible again, especially into Sunday when scattered snow showers linger.
Looking ahead into early next week, temperatures trend closer to seasonal averages, and longer-range signals hint at milder air building across the Midwest. Early signs of spring are there, but winter still has a grip on southeast Wisconsin.
