Oklahoma’s dry grass is already rattling in the wind, and by midday the air will feel more like late spring than late February. Southwest gusts are building across Oklahoma City, and fire danger ramps up quickly through the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, a Red Flag Warning remains in effect from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. for central and western Oklahoma, including Oklahoma City. Southwest winds will blow 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph. Relative humidity could drop as low as 10 percent. High temperatures will climb into the low 70s, creating near-critical fire weather conditions.

Any spark could spread fast in this pattern. Open burning is strongly discouraged. Secure trailer chains, avoid parking on dry grass, and delay any outdoor welding. Fire crews across Oklahoma County are on alert as cured winter vegetation fuels rapid growth.

Skies stay sunny today with a high near 71°F. Winds ease tonight as temperatures fall to the upper 40s. Wednesday turns even warmer, reaching the mid-70s with lighter southwest winds. By Thursday, cooler air slips in behind a front, bringing highs near 69°F and a north breeze.

Sunshine dominates into Friday and Saturday, with highs rebounding into the mid to upper 70s. A slight chance of showers arrives late Saturday into Sunday, but widespread rain is not expected.

Looking ahead into early next week, temperatures remain above normal. Broader climate signals point toward continued warmth and early hints of spring across much of Oklahoma.
