Crandon, Wisconsin – A fast-moving burst of snow could drop up to an inch per hour across northeast Wisconsin late Tuesday morning, quickly covering roads and reducing visibility before the afternoon drive.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a Winter Weather Advisory runs from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Tuesday for Forest and Florence counties, including Crandon, Aurora, Commonwealth and Spread Eagle. Total snowfall of 1 to 3 inches is expected, with the heaviest snow falling in a concentrated 2- to 4-hour window.
Highways 8, 32 and 70 may become snow-covered as rates intensify. Gusty winds will combine with the falling snow to lower visibility at times, making travel difficult on rural roads and wooded stretches where drifting can develop. Even a quick inch on untreated pavement can lead to spinouts and slower traffic.
Drivers should reduce speed, increase following distance and check Wisconsin 511 for updated road conditions before heading out. Snow tapers by midafternoon Tuesday, but slick spots may persist into the evening as temperatures remain below freezing.
