Jackson, Kentucky – Snow showers will continue to move across eastern Kentucky through the evening, creating sudden slick spots and icy bridges that could catch drivers off guard during the commute home.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. EST for Bell and Leslie counties, including Middlesboro, Pineville and Hyden. Farther east, the advisory continues until midnight for Harlan, Letcher, Pike, Floyd, Knott, Perry and Martin counties. Additional snow accumulations will range from a dusting to 1 inch, with up to 2 inches possible above 3,000 feet.

Communities such as Pikeville, Whitesburg, Hazard and Harlan may see bursts of heavier snow that briefly coat roads and reduce visibility. Conditions will vary sharply over short distances, especially on mountain roads and elevated stretches of U.S. 23 and U.S. 119. Bridges and untreated secondary routes may turn icy quickly after sunset.

Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and check GoKY.ky.gov for updated road conditions. Snow showers will taper late tonight, but slick spots could linger into early Tuesday morning.
