Idaho Weather Alert: 9 Inches of Snow Above 4,000 Feet, Mountain Passes Impacted Until 11 AM Tuesday

Spokane, Washington – Travel across North Idaho mountain passes will remain difficult through Tuesday morning as steady snow continues above 4,000 feet, with accumulations nearing 9 inches in the higher terrain.

According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. PST Tuesday for the Central Panhandle Mountains, including Fourth of July Pass, Lookout Pass, Wallace, Kellogg and Mullan. Snow totals above 4,000 feet will range from 5 to 9 inches, while valleys below 4,000 feet pick up 1 to 5 inches. In the Idaho Palouse, including Moscow and Genesee, wet snow between 1 and 4 inches is expected from 7 p.m. Monday through 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Lookout Pass along Interstate 90 could see snow-packed lanes and reduced visibility overnight into the Tuesday morning commute. U.S. Highway 95 near Potlatch and Plummer may also become slick before sunrise.

In Washington, a separate advisory for Stevens Pass and Stehekin continues until 1 p.m. Monday with up to 2 additional inches.

Drivers should slow down, allow extra time and check Idaho 511 or WSDOT travel updates before heading out. Conditions will gradually improve late Tuesday morning as snowfall tapers.
