Gray, Maine – Snow-covered roads and wind gusts up to 40 mph will continue to slow the evening commute across western Maine and central New Hampshire through 10 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Gray, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 p.m. EST for southern Oxford, southern Franklin, southern Somerset and the Interior Cumberland Highlands in Maine, along with northern Carroll, southern Grafton and Sullivan counties in New Hampshire. An additional inch or two of snow is expected before the system tapers off, bringing storm totals up to 3 inches in many communities.
Roadways in Bethel, Norway, Farmington, Skowhegan and Fryeburg, as well as North Conway, Plymouth and Claremont, will remain slick through the evening. Gusty winds may cause patchy blowing snow on exposed roads, including stretches near Crawford Notch and higher terrain in the western mountains. While widespread power outages are not expected, isolated tree limb damage is possible.
Drivers should reduce speed, allow extra stopping distance and check newengland511.org for updated travel conditions. Snow will taper later this evening, but untreated roads could remain slippery overnight as temperatures hold below freezing.
