Cleveland, Ohio – Lake effect snow bands are lining up off Lake Erie, dropping quick bursts of accumulation that could snarl the Monday evening commute from Sandusky to Erie.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect across north-central and northeast Ohio, as well as northwest Pennsylvania. Erie and Huron counties in Ohio are under an advisory until 7 p.m. Monday, with 1 to 2 inches of additional snow and wind gusts up to 35 mph. Farther east, including Cleveland, Lorain, Akron and Ashtabula, 1 to 4 inches could fall through 1 a.m. Tuesday. In Crawford and Northern Erie counties in Pennsylvania, 1 to 3 inches may continue through 7 a.m. Tuesday.
Snow-covered stretches of Interstate 90, Interstate 71 and the Ohio Turnpike are likely, especially during heavier bursts. Visibility can drop quickly under stronger bands, then improve within a few miles. Bridges and overpasses will become slick first as temperatures hover near freezing.
ODOT and the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission urge drivers to slow down and check OHGO.com for live conditions. In Pennsylvania, motorists can monitor 511PA for updates.
Lake effect snow will gradually shift and weaken overnight, but slick spots could linger into the Tuesday morning commute east of Cleveland.
