Accomack, Virginia – Wind gusts up to 45 mph are whipping light snow across the Eastern Shore, cutting visibility and creating slick roads through early afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m. Monday for Accomack and Northampton counties in Virginia, along with Dorchester, Wicomico, Somerset, Inland Worcester and the Maryland Beaches. Additional snow accumulations up to one-half inch are expected, but strong winds will cause blowing snow and sudden visibility drops.

Drivers along U.S. Route 13 from Cape Charles to Salisbury may encounter brief whiteout conditions as snow blows across open farmland and coastal roadways. Bridges and elevated roadways will become slick first, especially near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel approaches and along coastal routes near Ocean City.

Gusty winds could also bring down small tree limbs, leading to isolated roadway debris. Officials urge motorists to slow down and check 511 for real-time traffic updates before heading out.

Conditions are expected to improve after 1 p.m., but wind chills will remain low and patchy slick spots may linger into the afternoon.
