Baton Rouge, Louisiana – Temperatures will plunge to 27 degrees overnight, putting crops, tender plants and exposed pipes at risk across southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi.

According to the National Weather Service in New Orleans, a Freeze Warning is in effect from 7 p.m. Monday until 9 a.m. Tuesday. Widespread sub-freezing temperatures are expected across a large portion of the region, including Baton Rouge, Gonzales, Slidell, Hammond and Houma in Louisiana, along with McComb, Picayune, Gulfport and Pascagoula in Mississippi.

The coldest readings are likely between midnight and daybreak Tuesday, when clear skies and light winds allow temperatures to drop quickly. Areas north of Lake Pontchartrain and inland Mississippi communities could see several consecutive hours below 32 degrees.

Residents should cover or bring in sensitive plants, wrap exposed outdoor pipes and allow indoor faucets to drip if necessary. Farmers are urged to protect early-season crops from frost damage. Pets should be brought indoors or provided with adequate shelter.

Temperatures will climb above freezing by mid-morning Tuesday, but additional cold nights remain possible this week if clear skies persist. Stay alert for updated advisories.
