Ohio roads glisten under a thin, nearly invisible glaze this morning, and drivers are already tapping brakes a little earlier than usual.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. EST across central and southwest Ohio, northern Kentucky, and southeast Indiana. Light snow continues in spots, with additional accumulations up to one inch. That may sound minor, but the bigger concern is black ice.

Snow that melted and refroze has left slick patches on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses. Temperatures hover near freezing, allowing icy spots to linger well into the morning commute.

Cities impacted include Columbus, Dayton, Cincinnati, Newark, Springfield, Wilmington, Hamilton, Covington, Newport, Florence, Richmond, and Lawrenceburg. Blowing snow in open areas could briefly reduce visibility, especially in rural stretches.

Travelers along I-70, I-71, I-75, and I-275 should plan extra time. Leave more following distance and avoid sudden braking. Side streets and parking lots may be more treacherous than main highways.

Conditions should gradually improve late this morning as temperatures rise and snowfall tapers. However, shaded areas may remain slick even after the advisory expires.

Looking ahead, temperatures moderate later this week with signs of a broader warming trend developing into early next week. For now, though, winter still has a grip on the Tri-State.

Slow down and use caution if heading out. Check 511in.org in Indiana, goky.ky.gov in Kentucky, or ohgo.com in Ohio for the latest road conditions.
