Mobile, AL – Wind chills as low as 15 degrees are gripping inland parts of southwest Alabama early Monday, creating a risk of hypothermia for anyone outdoors before sunrise.
According to the National Weather Service in Mobile, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 8 a.m. CST for much of south central and southwest Alabama and northwest Florida. Inland communities from Monroeville and Evergreen to Chatom and Camden could see wind chills between 15 and 20 degrees. Coastal areas including Mobile, Gulf Shores, Pensacola and Destin will experience wind chills between 20 and 25 degrees.
In Mobile and Baldwin counties, brisk north winds are making it feel significantly colder than the actual temperature, especially in open areas and near the coast. Early commuters in Pensacola, Milton and Crestview may notice the sharp chill while waiting at bus stops or walking into work.
Officials urge residents to wear layers, hats and gloves if heading outside. Limit prolonged exposure and bring pets indoors whenever possible. Conditions are expected to gradually improve after 8 a.m. as temperatures rise, but the cold start could still impact the early morning commute across the Gulf Coast.
