Geneseo, N.Y. – Snow is steadily coating roads across western New York’s higher terrain tonight, and both the Monday morning and evening commutes could be slowed by accumulating snow and reduced visibility.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. Monday for Livingston, Ontario and Allegany counties. Higher elevations in the Bristol Hills and northern Allegany County could see 4 to 8 inches of snow, while valleys and lower elevations are expected to receive 2 to 4 inches.
Farther west, Wyoming, Cattaraugus and southern Erie counties remain under an advisory until 6 a.m. Tuesday. The Boston Hills, ridges of Wyoming County and northern Cattaraugus County could also pick up 4 to 8 inches, with lighter totals in lower elevations including Orchard Park and Olean.
Snow-covered stretches are likely along Interstate 390 near Geneseo, Route 20A in Wyoming County and Route 219 through the Boston Hills. Conditions may vary sharply over short distances as elevation changes.
Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance and monitor local reports. Snow will gradually taper Monday night into early Tuesday, but slick spots may linger in higher terrain.
