Union City, Pa. – Snow is intensifying across southern Erie County early Monday, and drivers could face rapidly deteriorating road conditions as lake-enhanced bands drop several more inches before daybreak Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 a.m. Tuesday for southern Erie County, including Union City, Corry and Edinboro. An additional 4 to 8 inches of snow is expected, bringing storm totals to between 6 and 10 inches. Forecasters say snowfall rates will ramp up this morning, with periods of moderate to heavy snow continuing through the day.

Roads such as Route 6, Route 19 and Interstate 79 may become snow-covered and slick, especially during heavier bursts. The hazardous conditions could disrupt both the Monday morning and evening commutes as visibility drops and plow crews struggle to keep pace.

PennDOT and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission urge motorists to delay unnecessary travel and check 511PA for the latest roadway conditions. Drivers who must head out should carry emergency supplies, including food, water and a flashlight.

Snow showers will gradually ease late Monday night, but difficult travel may linger into early Tuesday morning before conditions improve.
