Jacksonville, Florida – Temperatures will fall below freezing across much of north Florida and southeast Georgia after midnight, with wind chills dropping into the teens and lower 20s before sunrise Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, a Freeze Warning remains in effect from midnight to 9 a.m. Monday for inland northeast Florida and southeast Georgia, where lows could reach 29 degrees. A Cold Weather Advisory runs from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m., with wind chills as low as 19 degrees inland and 23 degrees along the Jacksonville metro area. Farther south, Glades and Hendry counties are under a Cold Weather Advisory from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m., with wind chills near 31 degrees.
Communities including Macclenny, Lake City, Waycross, Jesup and Folkston face the greatest freeze risk overnight. Jacksonville, Fernandina Beach and St. Simons Island will see bitter wind chills before daybreak.
A Freeze Watch is already in place from late Monday night through Tuesday morning, when temperatures could drop to 25 to 28 degrees inland, threatening crops, tender plants and exposed pipes.
Residents should bring pets indoors, cover sensitive vegetation and wrap or drip outdoor pipes. Those without reliable heat can call 211 for shelter information. Additional freeze alerts may be issued ahead of Tuesday morning.
