Pineville, Kentucky – Snow showers moving through southeast Kentucky could quickly coat roads and cut visibility, creating slick conditions ahead of the Monday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Bell and Leslie counties until 7 p.m. Monday. Forecasters expect total snow accumulations up to 2 inches, with bursts of heavier snow at times. Wind gusts between 20 and 30 mph may accompany the stronger showers, briefly reducing visibility Sunday evening and again during the day Monday.

Statewide, eastern Kentucky remains under winter weather advisories as periodic snow bands move across the region. In Bell County, roads in Pineville and Middlesboro could become slick, especially on bridges and untreated secondary routes. In Leslie County, Hyden and surrounding communities may see quick changes in road conditions as heavier showers pass.

Transportation officials warn that conditions could vary over short distances, particularly in higher terrain and shaded valleys. The Monday morning and evening commutes carry the greatest risk for snow-covered pavement and reduced visibility.

Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and check real-time road conditions at GoKY before heading out. The advisory stays in place until 7 p.m. Monday, and additional updates are possible if snowfall becomes heavier than expected.
