Clewiston, Florida – Temperatures dipping to 31 degrees before sunrise Monday could put crops, pets and exposed plumbing at risk across interior South Florida within the next several hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday for Glades, Hendry and Inland Collier counties. Wind chills could fall to 31 to 32 degrees during the pre-dawn hours. A Freeze Watch is also in effect from late Monday night through Tuesday morning, when actual air temperatures could drop to 31 degrees in some rural locations.
Across southwest Florida, communities including Clewiston, Moore Haven, Immokalee and Palmdale may wake up to the coldest conditions of the season. Agricultural areas around Lake Okeechobee and Immokalee face an elevated risk for frost damage, especially in low-lying fields. Sensitive vegetation and unprotected outdoor pipes could suffer damage if temperatures briefly fall below freezing Tuesday morning.
Health officials warn that prolonged exposure to wind chills near freezing can lead to hypothermia, particularly for vulnerable residents. Residents without reliable heat can call 211 for assistance.
Bring pets indoors, cover tender plants and use space heaters safely. The coldest air arrives before sunrise Monday and again late Monday night, with additional advisories possible if temperatures trend lower.
