Binghamton, New York – Snow-covered roads and bursts of blowing snow could slow traffic across the Southern Tier and Northeast Pennsylvania through both the Monday morning and evening commutes.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. Monday for Broome, Chenango, Otsego and Steuben counties in New York, along with Bradford and Susquehanna counties in Pennsylvania. Additional snowfall of 2 to 4 inches is expected, with wind gusts reaching 35 mph.
Steadier snow will continue at times through Monday, coating roads in Binghamton, Oneonta, Corning and Hornell. Gusty winds may create blowing snow, especially along open stretches of Interstate 81, Route 17 and U.S. Route 6 near Towanda and Montrose, briefly reducing visibility.
PennDOT and NYSDOT urge drivers to slow down and adjust speeds for changing conditions. Motorists can check 511ny.org or 511pa.com for the latest roadway updates before traveling.
Snow tapers gradually Monday evening, but slick spots may linger after sunset as temperatures remain below freezing. Additional advisories could be issued if snow bands persist.
