State College, Pennsylvania – Snow will intensify across central Pennsylvania by late Sunday evening, coating interstates and secondary roads before daybreak Monday and threatening to slow the morning commute. Gusts up to 40 mph will push snow across open stretches of highway, reducing visibility at times.
According to the National Weather Service in State College, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 p.m. Monday for Northern Clinton, Clearfield, Centre, Blair, Huntingdon, Mifflin, Juniata, Bedford, Fulton, Franklin, Sullivan, Union and Snyder counties. An additional 2 to 6 inches of snow is expected before precipitation tapers late Monday morning.
Across the region, slick conditions may develop along Interstate 99 near Altoona, U.S. Route 22 through Huntingdon and Lewistown, and Route 15 near Lewisburg. Higher elevations around State College and Renovo could see reduced visibility as winds loft freshly fallen snow.
The heaviest snowfall is expected overnight into early Monday, creating hazardous travel for the Monday morning commute. Officials urge drivers to allow extra time, keep emergency supplies in vehicles and check road conditions by calling 511 before heading out.
Snow will gradually diminish late Monday morning into early afternoon. The Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 p.m. Monday, and additional advisories could be issued if snowfall rates increase overnight.
