Scranton, Pennsylvania – Heavy snow and 45 mph wind gusts will turn highways across northeast Pennsylvania and Delaware County, New York into blowing snow corridors by late Sunday night, with visibility dropping below a quarter mile at times. Roads including Interstate 81 and Interstate 84 could become snow-covered and hazardous before the Monday morning commute begins.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 p.m. Monday for Delaware County in New York and for Northern Wayne, Wyoming, Lackawanna and Luzerne counties in Pennsylvania. Total snowfall will range from 6 to 12 inches in Delaware, Northern Wayne and Wyoming counties, and 6 to 14 inches in Lackawanna and Luzerne counties. North-northwest winds will increase overnight and continue through Monday, gusting up to 45 mph.

Across the region, blowing and drifting snow will sharply reduce visibility on bridges and overpasses, especially along I-81 near Scranton and Wilkes-Barre and along Route 6 near Honesdale. Gusty winds may snap tree limbs and scatter debris onto secondary roads.

The most dangerous travel conditions will impact both the Monday morning and evening commutes. Officials urge residents to delay unnecessary travel and check 511NY or 511PA for updated road conditions.

Snow and gusty winds will persist through Monday afternoon before gradually easing toward evening. The Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 p.m. Monday, and additional advisories are possible if visibility drops further overnight.
