Rutland, Vermont – Snow will overspread southern Vermont after 1 a.m. Monday, quickly coating roads before the morning commute and intensifying toward midday. Brief bursts could exceed 1 inch per hour, reducing visibility and covering highways from Rutland to White River Junction.
According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 1 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday for Rutland and Windsor counties. Total snowfall between 3 and 7 inches is expected, with wind gusts up to 35 mph creating areas of blowing snow.
Across the region, slick travel is likely on U.S. Route 4 near Killington, Interstate 89 near Bethel and Interstate 91 near Springfield. Snow-covered secondary roads in Ludlow, Fair Haven and East Wallingford may become difficult to navigate, especially during heavier bursts around midday.
The most hazardous conditions will coincide with both the Monday morning and evening commutes. Officials urge drivers to slow down, allow extra time and check updated road conditions at newengland511.org before heading out.
Snow will gradually taper late Monday afternoon into early evening, but patchy blowing snow could linger in open areas until the advisory expires at 7 p.m. Monday. Additional updates are possible if snowfall rates trend higher during the day.
