Clewiston, Florida – Slow down immediately if you’re driving this morning as visibility drops to one-quarter mile or less in dense fog across Glades, Hendry and inland Collier counties, creating hazardous conditions through 9 a.m. Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. EST Sunday for communities including Clewiston, Moore Haven, Immokalee and Felda. Drivers along U.S. 27 and State Road 29 could encounter sudden drops in visibility. Headlights should be used on low beam, and extra following distance is critical.
Attention then turns to the cold. A Cold Weather Advisory takes effect from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday, when wind chills will fall to 31 degrees in Glades and Hendry counties and near 33 degrees in inland Collier County. A Freeze Watch remains in effect from late Monday night through Tuesday morning for Glades and Hendry counties, where temperatures could dip to 32 degrees, threatening crops and exposed plumbing.
Residents should cover sensitive vegetation, bring pets indoors and check on elderly neighbors. Portable heaters must be used safely, and generators should never run inside homes or garages.
Fog lifts by late morning, but cold conditions return before dawn Monday, with additional alerts possible ahead of Tuesday morning.
