Charleston, South Carolina – Secure outdoor items now as wind gusts up to 45 mph whip across the Lowcountry this afternoon, then prepare for wind chills falling into the teens by midnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. EST Sunday for southeast South Carolina and southeast Georgia. Northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph could snap small tree limbs and cause isolated power outages. A Cold Weather Advisory begins at midnight and continues through 9 a.m. Monday, when wind chills will range from the mid to upper teens inland to around 20 degrees along the coast.
In the Charleston metro area, including North Charleston, Mount Pleasant and Summerville, drivers on the Ravenel Bridge and I-26 may encounter strong crosswinds through early evening. Coastal communities such as Hilton Head Island, Tybee Island and Edisto Beach will see wind chills near 20 degrees before sunrise.
Farther inland, communities including Walterboro, Allendale and Statesboro could drop into the mid to upper teens early Monday, increasing the risk of hypothermia with prolonged exposure.
Wear layered clothing, hats and gloves if heading out before 9 a.m. Monday, and secure loose outdoor objects before sunset. Additional advisories could follow if winds persist or temperatures trend lower overnight.
